Can I use Tide for baby clothing or can I only use Dreft?

I’m being told that I should buy Dreft when I wash baby clothes but can’t I just use my Tide detergent that I use for my clothing?

if baby is a nb, i would use the ‘free’ version without dyes or frag; it worked fine for my dd; then a few mos later i tried a piece of her’s in our reg deter. bc she was always against our clothes with no reaction and have been using regular since then; u don’t NEED dreft, most brands make a ‘free’ version now; some ppl just like the smell of dreft..

No need for special "baby" detergent. Best to use dye/fragrance free if possible but no need for Dreft or the like.

I have never used baby detergent. Its just a sales gimic.
I do use dye and perfume free detergents anyway though, due to my husband’s extremely sensitive skin.

It depends on the child – you absolutely do not have to use Dreft but regular Tide might be harsh if your baby has sensitive skin. We went with All Free & Clear (no perfume and no dye) – gets the clothes clean, we wash our clothes in it, too, it is less expensive than Dreft and it does not irritate my son’s skin – he has sensitive skin.

You can definitely use regular detergent, just watch your baby’s skin after switching to make sure it doesn’t irritate him or her. Also, I’d suggest using the liquid detergent, the powder just seems harsher to me but you can totally try it.

you can use whatever you want. it is trial and error to find out if there isanything you can’t. However, Dreft has that yummy new baby smell in it, and it absolutely enhances the adorableness of any and all babies. :) yes it is expensive, but hey you can wash a whole layette(aka wardrobe) in one load…the clothes are tiny! It last a long time and is so so worth it

You can use whatever detergent you want. I don’t see a point to washing baby’s clothes separate since baby touches everyone else’s clothes too.

I think anything is fine for clothing, just rinse well. If you use cloth diapers though, you have to use special detergents for them (a lot of regular detergents have ingredients that build up and will cause the fabric to repel fluids, thus making the diaper less absorbent, increasing leaks)

A good website for cloth diaper detergents:

Unless your baby has sensitive skin, you can use Tide. Just be prudent and economical, so measure it carefully, don’t just slosh it in the tub.

Any detergent you use for your baby has to be free of colors and fragrances because your baby’s skin is too sensitive and it will cause a rash.
Tide makes a Free and Clear formula that is safe for babies, so does All, and most other detergent brands.
My baby still wound up getting a rash with the Tide Free and Clear so I switched to Dreft. I hate that it’s so exspensive though! It’s twice as expensive as the Tide, how sad is that?
